
Career Background
Paul Matthew Layne was born in rural upstate New York and was raised in the Capitol District. He was educated in both the highly regarded Niskayuna School System and prestigious Syracuse University. He possesses a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design, otherwise known as consumer product design. Shortly after graduation Paul Matthew, was hired by well known Designer, Neville Lewis as a Junior Designer with his NYC Interior Design Firm.
From the very onset of his career Paul Matthew was able to interact and participate on many high profile commercial design projects with Neville Lewis associates.. Client projects have included the Headquarters for Cahners Publications, Merrill Lynch, L.F. Rothschild Investments and RJR/Nabisco.
He also worked for San Francisco based, Interior Architects in both NYC and LA offices. Once in Los Angeles, he participated on projects for Latham & Watkins Attorneys at Law, JMB Urban Development, Kodak, George Elkins, Galpin Motors and Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills.
In the early 1990’s after completing design work for the new UCLA Medical Plaza in Westwood, CA, Paul Matthew was hired to lead design and programming for the Kaiser Project at California Business Interiors. This involved remodels within all 37 Hospital and Medical Offices Locations within the Kaiser Permanente Hospital Network. This project included remodel of spaces utilizing new systems furniture products. All areas were programmed, designed, specified and project managed. The Kaiser Permanente project lead to genesis of a healthcare division at CBI. Paul Matthew lead and project managed all healthcare clients. Additional clients included FHP, NME and many medical clinics.
In 1995, Paul Matthew stepped into a corporate facility management position with a national career management firm. This role involved, among other things, design, planning, staffing and training for all office locations. He managed as many as 22 office locations throughout the United States. After 8 ½ years in this position, Paul Matthew ventured into the arena of self-employment with partner, Jeffrey Read. Their combination of talents, skills and experiences led to purchase and ultimate re-invention of MH Designs in December 2003.
